Senior Counsel

Patrice Doger de Spéville SC graduated in Law at the Council of Legal Education School of Law, London, England and was called to the Mauritian Bar in 1978. Patrice is a member of the Middle Temple (one of the four English Inns of Court), holder of French “Licence & Maitrise en Droit” and is a door tenant at Courtyard Chambers, London, England.

Patrice was elected President of the Mauritius Bar Association in 2008-9 and elevated to the rank of Senior Counsel in June 2010. He is currently Chief Editor of the local periodical ‘New Bar Chronicle’.

Patrice deals with both International and Local clients, with the latter being mainly corporate operating in the banking, financial, insurance, hotels, commercial, and industrial (predominantly sugar) sectors. Internationally, Patrice has collaborated with several reputable law firms and Chambers; for example: Hogan Lovells, Baker Mackenzie, Clifford Chance, Herbert Smith, Holman Fenwick Willan, Doughty Street Chambers, Blake Morgan LLP, Lipman Karas and several French/Swiss “Cabinets d’Avocats”.

He currently sits as a director in a number of companies including Avipro Ltd (Poultry Farming), Compagnie de Beau Vallon Ltée (Sugar Activities), Union Sugar Estate Co. Ltd (Sugar Activities), Southern Cross Tourist Co. Ltd (Tourism), Astroea Beach Company Ltd (Tourism), & Compagnie Lycée Labourdonnais (Education).

Whilst being a litigation lawyer, a substantial share of Patrice’s practice consists in the advising of clients and arbitration. In doing so, Patrice has provided opinions on several financial agreements, labour disputes and various other contractual matters. He has also advised on Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS) projects.
